Patrolled beaches ensure safety for swimming and surfing. Families can enjoy hours of fun in the safety of the Camden Haven waterways with water skiing, parasailing and jet skiing.
If getting your feet wet isn't for you, there are endless walkways along the coastline with stunning views. Dolphins frequent the river mouths and whales can be seen off the coast seasonally.
For fishing enthusiasts there excellent locations for surf, estuary and river fishing. Boat hire is available.

For the historically minded, Port Macquarie was one of the original penal settlements outside of Sydney with the arrival of three ships, "Lady Nelson", "The Mermaid" & "The Prince Regent" in March, 1821, under the command of Captain Francis Allman. Port Macquarie's population consisted of the leaders, two officers', their wives and four children, thirty eight soldiers and sixty selected convicts.
Now with a population of sixty thousand Port Macquarie population a mecca for tourists, particularly in the summer months and school holiday periods.
There are museums, lighthouses, cemetries, numerous historical sites including churches and courthouses, and plaques throughout the town describe the fate of ships wrecks in years gone by. |

Wauchope's Timbertown Heritage Theme Park is a reminder of the timber cutting days from over 100 years ago. The park is open daily from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
The park features a working bullock team, hourly rides aboard the steam train, a wealth of steam machinery from days gone by, animal nursery, historical buildings all on display with staff in period costume.

West of the Pacific Highway visitors can explore the sub tropical rainforests of Boorgana Nature Reserve or the picnic areas od Swans Crossing and Upsalls Creek. Enroute visit the herbal offerings of Norfolk Punch and the Lorne Valley Macadamia Farm, visit the many local wineries, including Cassegrains, Long Point Vineyards and Bago Vineyards or enjoy a family trail ride with Bellrowan Valley Horse Riding.
On the Pacific Highway at the southern extrance to Port Macquarie is the Billabong Koala Breeding Center. Here you can observe kangaroos, wallabies and wombats close up or have your photo taken with Australia's lovable koalas. |

For health concerns there is a medical center in Laurieton, with base hospitals in both Port Macquarie and Taree. |
